Housing benefits
Housing Benefit can help you pay for part or all of your rent.
We only accept Housing Benefit claims from:
- Pensioners
- People in certain types of exempt or specified accommodation
- People placed in temporary accommodation by Gravesham Borough Council
You could get Housing Benefit if you:
- pay rent
- are on a low income or claiming benefits
- have savings below £16,000
You can apply if you’re unemployed or working. If you live with a partner, only one of you can get Housing Benefit.

Universal Credit
Universal Credit is a single monthly payment for people who are looking for work or are on a low income.
It replaces the following working age benefits:
- Housing Benefit
- Income Support
- Jobseekers Allowance (Income Based)
- Employment and Support Allowance (Income Based)
- Working Tax Credit
- Child Tax Credit
