Woodlands Park
Woodlands Park is a 15-acre park which dates back to 1937. It is on the boundary between Gravesend and Northfleet, with access from Wrotham Road or Dashwood Road.
With extensive sports and recreational facilities including a bowling green and children's play area, outdoor gym equipment and a full size basketball court.
There are two newly renovated tennis courts that are available for pay and play, allowing you to book and pay for a single booking at any time at £6.50 per hour or an annual household season ticket for £45 which can be used across all the tennis courts in Gravesham. Bookings are managed through the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) Foundation.
The open space is managed grasslasnds with a perimeter path dotted with a variety of evergreen and broadleaf trees.
The former golf area has been converted to a sensory garden as part of the Queens Green Canopy initiative.
The sensory gardens were officially opened by the Lady Colgrain, the Lord Lieutenant of Kent in July 2022.
The park also has a hidden history, however – underneath the grounds lies a secret Cold War bunker, an underground civil defence command post built in 1954. It was from here that the town’s emergency services were to be coordinated in the event of a nuclear attack.
Dogs are not allowed in the play area and bikes/e-scooters are strictly prohibited.
The park is locked every evening by the park rangers or security but the time will vary. Pedestrians can still get access out of hours but through the kissing gates at the end of Dashwood Road.
