Rubbish

Most homes in the borough will use a black 180 litre rubbish bin. For those properties that are unsuitable for bins then you'll use black sacks to put your rubbish in.

  • Nappies
  • Plastic bags
  • Wrapping - for example, cling film and bread bags
  • Crisp packets
  • Broken toys, plant pots and other hard plastic items
  • Light bulbs
  • Used tissues and cotton wool
  • Sanitary items
  • Broken glass, vases and mirrors (please make sure this is wrapped in paper)

What you shouldn't put in your rubbish bin

  • Food waste
  • Garden waste
  • Electrical items
  • Builder's waste
  • Paint
  • Hazardous waste

  • Wood

When will it be collected?

Your rubbish is collected once every two weeks. You can find out what day your rubbish is collected on by visiting our Bin collection day checker.

Remember to put your bin out by 7am on your collection day.

What happens to rubbish after its collected?

Approximately 16,000 tonnes of rubbish is collected from Gravesham households each year. All of this household waste is sent to an Energy from Waste Plant at Allington in Kent to be incinerated and used to generate electricity.
